“When the earth moves again” era el tema que abría el ansiado y esperado álbum de los Jefferson Airplane “Bark”, de 1971, y digo ansiado ya que su predecesor, el “Volumteers” de 1969 había sido una obra aplaudida por crítica y público y les había dado a los Airplane un puesto clave en la avanzadilla de grupos de la costa oeste americana…pero el movimiento hippie tan latente en 1969 estaba desangrándose ya en 1971, incluso los Jefferson Airplane también tenían sus propias bajas en combate. Sobre todo cabe destacar la del fundador del grupo Marty Balin, y es que esas cosas acaban por notarse evidentemente y este disco, a pesar de conseguir bastante éxito comercial, no dejó de ser una decepción desde su edición. Aún se pueden escuchar en él los coros impagables de Grace Slick ,como los de este tema, pero la banda ya no suena tan contundente ni tan “atmosférica” como en trabajos anteriores. No tardarían en desaparecer para siempre como grupo, algo que finalmente sucedió en 1974.
En “When the earth moves again”, Paul Kantner, escritor de la canción, comienza su letra explicando las andanzas de Aníbal y los suyos hacia la todopoderosa Roma y la posterior victoria de romana. La historia de la humanidad según los Jefferson Airplane señores¡.
